The Gideon Warriors
Religous War Novel
Dr. Jim Jowers
About the Book

This is a dramatic religious/war novel about the helicopter raid on the POW camp at Son Tay, North Vietnam, where 55 American POWs are imprisoned. After CDR Tom Colby’s exploits with The Sea Devil squadron, he is flying a desk in the Pentagon. He is tasked to take a group of born-again veteran helicopter aviators on one of the most dangerous missions of the Vietnam War to rescue these POWs. In the late 1960’s his flight school buddy, Major McHam was shot down on a night combat mission in his A-6 Intruder jet. Mac survives the crash and is imprisoned at Son Tay.
Through a secret code, Mac is able to communicate with his wife and supply information in his letters to the CIA about prison conditions and names of prisoners. Mac prays for a guardian angel, and is surprised when God sends the angel, Joel, with a supply of food for the starving aviator.
CDR Colby and CIA agent, Jack Warner, meet at CIA headquarters to plan the raid. A team of Navy SEALs are deployed on a submarine as part of the raid team. Their task is to cut the electric and communication lines to the prison prior to the raid.
Agent Warner turns out to be a double agent and sells out plans of the raid to enemy agents. Faced with the possibility that the mission has been compromised, and having to fly across one of the most heavily fortified coastlines that American fighting men have encountered, Colby’s Gideon Warriors may be flying into a death trap.
